The Joyful Heart Foundation
The Joyful Heart Foundation is a non-profit
organization dedicated to healing,
educating and empowering survivors
of sexual assault, domestic violence
and child abuse, and to shed light
into the darkness that surrounds these
issues. The Foundation is a community
that is empowered with the knowledge,
courage and compassion to help survivors
of sexual assault, domestic violence
and child abuse heal their mind, body
and spirit. They value and dedicate
resources to individuals and families
that have been impacted by these issues;
and they seek to ignite and foster
an open dialogue about how to collaboratively
end the cycle of violence and abuse.
The Joyful Heart Foundation provides
an extensive network of resources
and groundbreaking retreats that complement
traditional counseling and therapy.
When people are abused and assaulted,
it is like the doors to their souls
slam shut. The goal of Joyful Heart
is to let the light, and the life,
back in--to banish the darkness and
let the healing begin.
President & Founder Mariska Hargitay
headlines the crime drama Law
and Order: Special Victims Unit
as veteran detective, Olivia Benson.
Committed to ending sexual violence
and caring for those who have survived
it, Mariska spends as much time off
screen dealing with these crimes as
she does on.

Hearts of Gold
Founded in 1996, Hearts of Gold supports the mothers and children in residence at three Manhattan shelters:
Icahn House East, LLC; Semiperm HDFC; and Nazareth Housing. Hearts of Gold's goal is to prepare families
to exit the shelter system and thrive on their own. To date, the organization has raised more than $1.6
million for the city's homeless mothers and children, providing everything from diapers, winter coats, and summer
camp tuition for the children; to mammograms, career counseling, and landlord negotiations for the mothers.
Everyday mothers with their children come to Hearts of Gold in need. By supporting Hearts of Gold you
help to ensure that homeless families have food, clothing, education, as well as many of the basics that
will allow them to get on their feet, overcome their struggles and go on to lead productive lives.

Fun Food, Smart Food
Fun
Food, Smart Food is a cooking
and nutrition program for NYC middle
school-age youth (grades 5-8). It
empowers young people to develop knowledge
of and love for cooking, become conscious
consumers, and make healthy food choices.
The free classes are held at after
school sites and include both hands-on
cooking and a stimulating nutrition
discussion. Fun Food is being launched
this winter in East/Central Harlem
and Central Brooklyn and will expand
to the South Bronx and Jamaica in
fall 2009. The program is a collaboration
of the NYC Department of Youth and
Community Development and the Children’s
Aid Society, in partnership with other
City agencies.
Me&Ro was proud to help the Mayor’s
Fund to Advance New York City raise
funds for the Fun Food program through
an event and sales proceeds, which
will support the purchase of food
and materials, as well as educational
trips to local greenmarkets, chef’s
kitchens and farms.
